Career Development

Three Areas of Career Development Focus

Know Yourself: The key to finding a good professional fit is to know yourself and what you want. We will work with you to identify your strengths, interests, values and priorities through a combination of self-assessment exercises and coaching.

Know Your Options: We provide workshops and other resources to help you understand all of the many options you have available to you as a TESOL or TFL program graduate. We also offer guidance in how to conduct information interviews as one key technique for identifying career options that are of interest to you. We connect you with alumni to help you build your network and to explore options with those who are already working in the fields or positions you are considering. Finally, we post jobs internally that are sent to us by alumni or faculty or employers who have hired Monterey Institute graduates in the past. This means that you have some advantage in applying for these jobs over other candidates.

Know the Process: We offer workshops and other resources to help you with the practical aspects of your job search. This includes assistance with writing CVs and cover letters, interviewing and networking, for example. We strive to make this information as relevant and practical as possible and will involve prospective employers whenever possible to help demystify the job search process.
