When Making an Appointment

Need an appointment with your career counselor?

  • Ask yourself, “What 1 or 2 questions will be the focus of this appointment?”  In a 20-minute appointment, only a limited amount of topics can be thoroughly addressed.

  • Please prepare and bring all necessary items to your appointment. For example, to discuss your C.V., bring a copy of your C.V.

  • Check the GSLEL Career web page before our meeting for useful information, handouts and web links on a variety of topics, such as: preparing a C.V., joining professional organizations, interviewing, and so on.

  • Attend any Career Workshops that focus on your topic of interest.

  • Look over the resources in the GSLEL Career Center in the McCone building, cubicle 7, such as: sample C.V.s, sample professional teaching portfolios, internship binder, potential employers information boxes, organized by state and country, etc.

    • The Career Center has many books and pamphlets for you to review. Should you like to borrow an item, write your name and the resource’s title on the clipboard hanging on the bookshelf.

  • Check the career materials found in the Fletcher-Jones Career Resource Center in the library. You can review a list of the available resources in the GSLEL Career Center
