The Graduate School of Translation and Interpretation annual career fair will have a few employers present who will be seeking to employ applied linguists (language teachers, curriculum development specialists, and test developers). Consider coming to the fair to speak with these employers in person. Entrance fee is one copy of your CV.

Working a Professional Convention

Prepare yourself to attend a professional convention (such as ACTFL or TESOL) and learn how to maximize the benefits of the conference. In addition, basic information about writing a conference proposal will be covered in this session with tips for beginners.

Interviewing Strategies in Language Education

This session will inform students about common features of interviews, such as, Q&As, practices in academic selection, professional portfolios, etc. Students will be able to practice their interview skills with mock interviews during the session.

Defense Language Institute employees discuss their work teaching in an intensive language program, training and developing teachers, and developing curriculum and assessment tools. Those interested in finding out more about this unique work environment should attend this session.

Searching for a job or internship: Tips and strategies

Students will be introduced to various job search resources found online, in the Fletcher-Jones Career Center, and in the GSLEL Career Center. Students will be asked to share their ideas and experiences in job searching with peers.

Recent conference presenters and attendees will provide short informative presentations on innovative teaching approaches learned about at the conferences. Presenters will provide a brief overview of information presented and share new ideas that you can put to immediate use in your classroom.
