Internship Opportunities

Internships are an excellent way for students to gain valuable experience in specific areas of interest. Some students arrive with years of relevant work experience; others may have had substantial experience in one field and now wish to build careers in new areas. Still others may be exploring the field for the first time. In each situation, internships are effective tools for gaining skills valued by employers. The GSLEL Career Office helps students develop internships that match their professional goals.

The GSLEL Career Service Office continuously monitors the global marketplace and utilizes its robust alumni network throughout the world to maintain up-to-date databases of internships opportunities and job openings for students and graduates. The Director of Career Services also works that students individually to develop internship opportunities which meet their career needs and interests.

Here are some examples of recent internships completed by TESOL and TFL students:

  • Technical and business English training in China
  • Teaching college-level EFL in Mexico
  • Language assessment specialist in Monterey and Silicon Valley
  • Korean for a private language school in Monterey
  • Japanese, English, & Spanish at Concordia Language Villages, a summer language camp in Minnesota
  • Various ESL and second language positions at Monterey Institute (English for Translators and Interpreters, Summer Intensive Language Programs, cross-cultural coordinator for Japanese college students, etc.)

If you are interested in developing an internship for TESOL or TFL students of the Monterey Institute, please contact GSLEL Career Services at 831-647-4174 or gslel@miis.edu.
