CREDIT

Students earn 12 units of credit for their studies in the summer intensive language program. These credits can be transferred and may fulfill language study requirements at other American undergraduate and graduate institutions. For transfer purposes, the student's home institution determines how many credits, graduate or undergraduate, are granted for participation in the Monterey Institute’s summer intensive language program. Students should consult their home campus advisers before enrolling. The summer intensive language program is not a certificate-program.

GRADES

The Monterey Institute of International Studies uses the following letter grades: A+, A, A-, B+, B, B-, C+, C, C-, D+, D, D-, and F. Students may also opt for Pass/ No Pass but should be certain they prefer the Pass/ No Pass Option before petitioning for it, as it is impossible to receive a letter grade after a Pass/ No Pass petition has been filed. For Pass/No Pass grading,"pass" is C-minus level work or above.  "No Pass" is D or F level.

For students who have been admitted to a graduate degree program at the Monterey Institute, up to four units of course work at the 300 level or above can be transferred into the graduate program and will be counted towards the language requirement. This will reduce the language requirement but does not reduce the full program unit count required for the graduate degree. Students should be aware that courses at the 300 level and above cannot count toward BA or Master's degrees at the Monterey Institute if they are graded Pass/No Pass. 300 level study is currently available in French and Spanish only.
