GRADE REPORTS AND TRANSCRIPTS

To receive a grade report after the end of the summer term, please fill out the mailing slip in your orientation packet and turn it in to the Records Office in the Casa Fuente building before the end of the term.

In order to transfer credit to another school, or if students wish to have an official copy of a transcript sent to them, a written and signed request must be submitted to the Records Office, either in person or by mail. There is a $5 fee per official transcript; make checks payable to MIIS.  Requests for transcripts may be submitted in person or by mail at any time after the program.

Mailing address:
Records Office
The Monterey Institute of International Studies
460 Pierce Street
Monterey, CA  93940
Phone: (831) 647-4121

Transcripts cannot be sent if the student, or former student, has outstanding debts with the Monterey Institute; this includes student accounts, student loans, library fines and materials, or any charges assessed by any other department.

Note: to students continuing in a the Monterey Institute degree program: with the exception of Arabic 200-level courses, SILP language courses at the 100 and 200 levels do not count toward the Monterey Institute degrees, neither as language nor elective units. Your grades for such lower division work will appear on a separate transcript page and will not be included in the calculation for your graduate GPA at the Monterey Institute.

Pass/No Pass Grading

Although it is strongly discouraged, students may petition for a pass/no pass grade between the first day of the program and the last day of each session, but not after each session end date (session dates are 7/2, 7/21, and 8/6). This late petition date is an exception to the usual pass/no pass system; however, it gives students time to assess their skills and progress before they decide which type of grading is preferred. Students who wish to select pass/no pass should fill out a pass/no pass petition form in the Records Office. A pass/no pass grade may not be arranged with the instructor and cannot be arranged after program completion. The petition form provided in your orientation packet must be used.

Units of Credit

All Summer Intensive Language Program students will receive 12 undergraduate semester units of credit. Anyone who must leave before the last day of classes, has to contact the Director of Executive and Foreign Language Programs, Alicia Brent. Instructors may not adjust the unit count or assign an incomplete to any student in SILP.

In addition, 4 units of the Monterey Institute language requirements can be satisfied only through the advanced 300-level courses offered in SILP. The only exception to this policy is for the Arabic program, which offers intermediate 200-level courses in the Language Studies Program (LS) at the Monterey Institute. For the Arabic program, 4 units of the Monterey Institute language requirements can be satisfied in intermediate 200-level SILP if, and only if, the student places in a higher level for the regular semester in the Language Studies Program. This means that SILP intermediate 200-level Arabic students cannot receive credit for the same course in LS. They must place in LS300+ in order to receive 4 units of the Monterey Institute credit for SILP. Please consult your advisor, the GSLEL Language Studies Coordinator, Angie Quesenbury (647-4198), or ILST Director, Alicia Brent (647-6541), if you have any questions.

Please note that placement into the graduate-level Language Studies Program at the Monterey Institute is not guaranteed through your participation in the Summer Intensive Language Program. All students wishing to enter the LS program must take the LS placement test prior to their acceptance into that program.
