Admission Requirements -
Graduate School of Language and Educational Linguistics


  • MA Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL)
  • MA Teaching a Foreign Language (TFL)
  • Peace Corps Master’s International TESOL

Bachelor’s degree or the equivalent from an accredited university

Minimum Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.0 on a 4.0. scale

Non-Native Speakers of English

Non-native Speakers of English are required to submit proof of English proficiency by submitting TOEFL or IELTS scores.

  • TOEFL minimums: 600 (paper) 250 (computer) 100 (internet)
  • IELTS minimums: 7.0 on listening and reading sections with no subscore below 6.5

Teaching a Foreign Language

The Teaching a Foreign Language program requires students to demonstrate a high proficiency (4th year college-level or higher) in the teaching language. Applicants must submit a writing sample, two to three pages in length, on any topic and complete a telephone interview* in the teaching language.

*Language faculty will contact students via email or phone to arrange an interview.

Certificate Programs

Admissions requirements for the certificate programs are the same as those for the MA programs.

  • Language Program Administration (LPA)   
  • Computer-Assisted Language Learning (CALL) 
  • Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL)
  • Teaching a Foreign Language (TFL)
