The Monterey Institute does not offer on-campus housing or dormitories. However, international students can receive help locating comfortable housing, sublets sharing apartments, houses with other Institute students, or renting a furnished room in the home of a local family. Many of the housing choices are within walking distance of the school.
With help from the Intensive English Program and the Institute's Student Services Office, you should be able to find comfortable housing. Our offices assist students by listing housing opportunities and advising students about finding a place to live in the Monterey area.
Many English students prefer to live with a local family. This is a great way to learn about American culture and increase your opportunities to use English. You can contact a local homestay agent for information about living in a private home. Homestay rates are $900 a month, including breakfast and dinner, or $750 a month with no meals provided. A one-time placement fee of $300 is charged, which must be paid in advance before a homestay can be secured. Payment of placement fee should be sent via a postal money order as soon as the student application is filled out.

The Student Services Office maintains a database of Long-Term Rentals and provides incoming degree-seeking students with the resources they need to conduct a successful, independent housing search. Admitted students will be able to access the password-protected listing of Long-Term Rentals from the New Student Orientation website. Non-degree students will receive this password from the Intensive English program offices once they have applied and been admitted.
