The Monterey Institute of International Studies offers a 12-credit Graduate Certificate in Computer-Assisted Language Learning (CALL), which can be taken concurrently with the MATESOL and MATFL degree programs, or as a stand-alone program for teachers who already hold a MA or who otherwise qualify for graduate study.
The CALL Certificate equips teachers with the tools to integrate computer technology appropriately into language classrooms and programs. It is also excellent preparation for the increasing number of leadership positions in the rapidly expanding field of education technology. Both theoretical and pedagogical insights, and practical, hands-on skills are emphasized. We maintain a strong focus on learning principles and processes, and never let sound teaching practice be overshadowed by technological wizardry.
The Monterey Institute also offers online CALL courses which can be taken for professional development, continuing education, or other accreditation or certification purposes.
The CALL Certificate coursework consists of the following required classes:
- CALL Pedagogy (2 credits)
- CALL & Curriculum Integration (2 credits)
- Computer-Assisted Assessment (2 credits)
- CALL Skills and Troubleshooting (2 credits)
The remaining five credits of coursework required for the Certificate can be fulfilled through a variety of elective offerings, such as:
- Teaching Writing Online
- Using the Internet for Language Teaching
- Online and Distance Education
- Corpus, Concordance, and CALL
- Introduction to Digital Media
- Web Design for Language Teaching
